Me and my friend went to the spot for giant yellowtail. We called them as "Hiramasa", the iconic fish for North West of the country. We leave pier around 6am, and looked for them. But this year, due to colder water in winter season, we met very few bait fish. We changed the spot for some times, and around noon, he took me to the spot with strong currents. The spot was like a relatively wide rock stands from 25m to 5m, and strong currents hit it directly from West. Since strong currents, we decided to do drifting dive, and I dive, and he drive a boat. I jumped into water and find good size but very very fat one like 12-15kg, but once I aim my polespear to it, it disappear into kelp woods. I swim towards the current with looking for giants, and 10min later suddenly 3 bigs came into my sight from up side but when I find them, they were already out of range. What I really love hunting them with polespear is, they swim very randomly and we have only one sec of making a shot. It needs true focus. Once I reached the edge of the rock, I stayed for 10min, but no giants showed up. I decided to riding currents and went back. After 5min of riding strong currents, I reached the spot where I jumped from the boat, and I found real big one was staying on the edge of drop off. I approached quietly and made a very quiet dive, and see she swim away. I made a one last strong finning, charged my slings, then make a shot. She swim away directly to the deeper part, but didn't fight so hard. She stuck on the rock due to kelps, and successfully hold her up. Sharp slip tip hold her gillplate from her pectral fin. And I enjoyed its beautiful color while waiting for the boat to come. I LOVE hunting Kingies! Thanks.
