In 2009 the IUSA Committee recognized a need to honor divers other than record holders and competitive divers (Athlete of the Year Award). It was determined that divers having exceptional spearfishing skills and divers who have dedicated much of their lives to furthering our sport by serving as dive club presidents, tournament directors, or other such services needed to be recognized in some formal way. It is this group of dedicated divers that make our sport great.
