I was out trying to find some walleye that afternoon and took a few shots at some white fish. After the second whitefish my shooting line on my speargun broke and I was forced to go out with my Cressi travel pole spear with a single barb tip on an extension. I really do not like using the pole spear because it is slow and I don't have great success with it. However everything aligned that day and after searching around I seen this huge pike around 10 feet away that slowly went and moved by a big sunken tree stump. I slowly crept up on him and pulled back the spear as far as I could. The shot hit him just behind the gills on the one side and the tip got tangled inside his gills. I quickly got to it as soon as I could and grabbed him and pulled out my knife and the rest is history. I finally landed a giant pike on the pole spear.
