Thinking my last chance to go out on the boat while visiting New England this year was canceled, we got a last minute green light the night before that the dive day was on again! Conditions were looking great; even with a 4:45AM wake up, it was a good day to be on the water. I took several dives and saw a couple schools of striped bass over the first hour. Finally, on what I thought would be my last drift before moving on, I found a nice spot on the bottom at 50 feet to lay still in a bit of surge and see what would come in. As a school began moving past me, I spotted the fish I've been waiting for and hit it behind the gill plate. As I pulled it in and swam to the boat, I could see that it was going to be large enough for a new world record! Special thanks to my favorite human Colin Hillberg who speared a 51 lb striped bass that day, and an additional thanks to Spear-It charters.
