A team of 4 SA spearfisherman had travelled for 6 days to get to G's Island in French Polynesia. On 28 August we had been diving all day on the main dropoff directly in front of our Pension about 2km out. I dived down with the Bulgarian 130 Seal (inverted roller with 9mm double barb shaft) and on way down spotted the snapper up current. I swam in a direct line to end up on top of the fish and by the time I reached the bottom at around 26-28m the fish was trying to stay just out of range. I snuck up from behind some structure and landed a good shot through the fish at a 45degree angle in mid body so there was a good holding shot. I swam up pulling the Rob Allan blue water bungee with all my strength to stop the fish from getting into the reef and 3 sharks were in hot pursuit. I got the fish up and landed a second shot after a quick load up with my spare Rabitech 1.4m double rubber with a reel. After getting the fish onto to the boat G mentioned this could be a World Record so we took some pics and headed home for the day to weigh the fish on my certified scale.
