I was out fishing with my brother Paul and we decided to do some spearing. After a some time in the water, I speared three large Ocean Triggerfish, which in the Bahamas we call Durgon. Then, I saw a larger one which was drifting in the current near the bottom. The current was at 4 knots, and i dove down to approach it, using a technique which allowed me to get close. As it eyed me while doing zig zags, I aimed my polespear and I shot it in its spine. Paralysed, I pulled it to the surface and swam it to the boat. Finally, I took it off the flopper barb and threw it in. It was heavier than I expected and has large teeth! A Durgon bit me the day before while trying to subdue it on a slip tip and I am glad this one didn’t get the chance. This is a species I find to be very interesting, and it they're delicious to eat. Please feel free to contact me for any questions.
