It was our last day diving the rigs in the gulf. As soon as we approached the rig, my dad pointed out three big horse eye jacks swimming together. I dove down but was unable to get a good shot on one so I just continued exploring the rig. A few minutes later, I saw Cameron pointing down at what I assumed was the horse eye jacks again deep below him. Two of them followed Cameron on his way up so I dove down about 40 ft and shot one. Even though my belt reel was attached to the band, I held on to the spear and attempted to swim to the surface but once I realized that fish was pulling me even deeper, I let go of the spear and swam to the surface. As soon as I got to the surface I began pulling the fish away from the rig and pulling up the line. Once I had the spear in my hands, I slid my hand down the cable slip tip, grabbed the fish by the gills, swam to the boat, put the fish on the transom, and kept diving.
