We went out specifically to shoot amberjack. The seas were rough so we decided only to dive one spot and go home. Upon getting in the water the school of AJ's greeted us at the surface, with the big ones keeping their distance. I shot a BIG AJ on my first drop but ended up losing him in the wreck. After regrouping and grabbing a different pole spear I remained hopeful of breaking my record from last year. After a handful of dives I dove down picked out the biggest one I could find and let my sharp stick fly, hitting the AJ. The fight was on! I was able to bring the AJ towards the surface where I was able to secure him and dispatch the fish. I then dragged the AJ into the boat and put it in the fish box. I quickly grabbed a cold beer to celebrate while quenching my thirst.
