My brother, Kevin Gillette, and I put our kayaks in to drift off of Langley, WA. I was using a Roisub 85 reverse roller band speargun. Visibility was less than 3 feet until 45 feet where it opened up to 5-10. I came down on a shelf at 55 feet and was looking at a group of rockfish when I saw a dust cloud up the shelf. I pulled myself up the bottom slowly towards the disturbance and saw a big tail in the cloud. I moved closer and saw a monster cabezon pulling a crab out of the sand. It was so busy eating it didn't see me approach. I shot it in the head and got full penetration. The fish took off but the flopper was engaged. I wrested it up and got a firm hold on it and quickly swam it back to the kayak. Once secured I hopped in and paddled to my brother to get to shore and get a weight. 25 pounds. A good day.
