It was early in the season and the dorado had only just turned up at ascension. There numbers were good but their size topped out at about 15Kgs. The visibility was a good 30 – 40m, no chum or flasher was used. The dorado were circling a FAD about a 75m away from it. Although they were quite easy to shoot with the gun, getting close enough with the spear was problematic. I dropped on a couple that were fairly close, one turned his flank to take a look at me and I did a rapid 2 -3 power kick to close as much distance in half a second, full stretched and extended my shooting arm, fired and got a solid good shot. It was a high shot but in a thick meaty area. I played it very slowly for quite a while. Every time it got with grabbing range it would find more energy and run some more. After 5 – 10 mins she gave me her gills and I was able to securely end the fight with my knife.
