My Complete Description of the Hunt: On July 19,2014 my friend, Michael Dumas and I were free diving in approximately 35' of water a couple of miles off the coast of Bimini, Bahamas. A few minutes into the dive I spotted a nice size yellow jack. I made my descent and took my first shot. The tip of the spear hit his gill plate but did not stick. He swam away bleeding so I followed his trail and spotted him just over a patch of reef. I attempted the second shot and it went into the back of his tail.. At this point, he woke up and ripped the actual spear tip out. In his attempt to swim away he turned towards me and I took the opportunity to intercept him. I placed my final shot with the pole spear and it stuck, holding me under water for a decent amount of time before I could finally get him up and out of the water.
