A Memorable Catch: The Dream Gilt-head Bream It was one of those days that start quietly but end up leaving unforgettable emotions. Together with my friend Sergio, we returned to a well-known spot that had already given us some good surprises in the past. The conditions were far from ideal: murky water, low visibility, strong lateral current, and a bottom temperature of around 16°C. But our desire to dive outweighed it all. After a few scouting dives, we dropped to about 26 meters, following familiar lines along the seabed. The current made it hard to hold position, but right in that controlled chaos, I spotted a massive shadow moving slowly near a slab of rock. It was her. A huge gilt-head bream — one you never forget. I approached slowly and steadily, holding my breath and slowing my heartbeat. The moment was perfect: a clean, precise shot, and the bream stayed down, heavy and imposing. The ascent was a mix of effort and adrenaline, with Sergio already understanding from above that it was something special. A catch memorable not just for the weight and beauty of the fish, but for the tough conditions, the bond between friends, and the reminder that some spots — even familiar ones — always know how to surprise you.
