Runner, Rainbow    Elagatis bipinnulata
Record Category: Men Sling / Polespear

Diving in the open with the flashers, past the ledge, a nice school of rainbow runners suddenly showed up. I dove to around 40 feet and aimed at the biggest one in the school. It was a clean shot, but while I was fighting him and pulling the line, a big barracuda attacked and nearly took him. I managed to pull him up fast enough to secure him. I thought it could be a world record, but since I was planning to eat it that same night as sashimi with some friends, bled it—probably losing a couple of pounds in the process. Thankfully, he was still big enough to qualify for a record weight.
