On a beautiful Wednesday morning with ideal ocean conditions, Andre Musgrove and I set out for an early spearfishing session around 9:30 AM. After losing a large mutton snapper to a shark earlier in the dive, I spotted a school of muttons near the ledge of the wall. I descended to a depth of 75 feet and clearly saw several large muttons within the group. I aimed at the biggest one and made a shot to the spine. The mutton immediately started pulling both my shooting line and float line with tremendous energy. That was when I realized it might be bigger than I had expected—but I had no idea it could be a potential world record. I pulled it back to the surface and bled it. I probably lost around two additional pounds of weight from the mutton, but luckily, the record was still set.
