On the 18th February 2025 @ aprox 0835 (Local time). I Robert Berto shot with my custom / prototype Ikigai Marine - BOONDI roller polespear a beautiful Barramundi, ( lates Calcarifer). Off my local Headland(which is normally filthy and undivable) approx position 16 46.400s 145 41.700 e. At the time of hunting and shooting this fish I was in the water by myself ( solo) - my partner Nikki Kuper was in the boat and not keen on the possibility of crocodiles. I shot the fish behind its pectoral fin on its right hand side ( looking from above) and the slip tip engaged on its left side at the pectoral fin. I had my belt reel attached to the polespear at the hand loop. I didn't use any assistance with loading the pole or have any retainer to hold it loaded. I disconnected the slip tip from the pole and slid the fish onboard the boat unassisted, once the fish was despatched. We were in Awe of the size and beauty of this fish. My best mate had cancelled to go with me for a shore dive that morning. So it was very sweet feeling that things lined up and I was lucky enough to get decent enough 3 meters vis. this particular spot. I left the fish on ice and later that day at approx. 1615 local time we weighed the fish at Cairns tackle world. It weighed 9.00 kg and measured 98.5cm. I have photos from capture and weighing. Of course the one day I forgot my gopro at home I got this beautiful fish. I will attach relevant videos and documents to support my case to claim a world record for men's polespear for Barramundi ( lates Calcarifer)
