This was during the 2024 National Freshwater Spear Fishing Tournament at Lake Geneva Wisconsin. Since the tournament was strictly shore diving, my brother and I swam a long route across the lake hoping to find a school of carp, however this was difficult because the carp in this lake tend to be in the deep water and constantly on the move, however my brother dove on a school and immediately notified me. I dove down about 45 ft and sat on the bottom of the lake which was approximately at a 45 degree angle. I looked down the incline (towards the deep) and waited patiently, hoping to spot one when suddenly I saw one coming in from behind. I slowly turned my body and landed a solid shot on the upper portion of his body towards the head. I knew the carp was big, especially since I had to drag it back across the lake with me, and after weighing it, it turned out to be the world record with a speargun and landing me the biggest fish of the tournament.
