I saw the golden trevally swimming past at a fair speed and I hesitated to shoot - I had already shot a lot of king mackeral and jobfish that day and so had fresh fish for dinner. I generally don't enjoy eating kingfish so was hesitant to shoot - but then realised it as a very big golden trevally which was a first for me so at the last possible moment pulled the trigger. Hence the tail shot!! But it actually held really well - there is a lot of very hard sinew in the tail area which stopped the spear from pulling out. The fish did tow me for a bit but it was really debilitating for it to swim with the spear in the tail area. Luckily no sharks around and I managed to pull it in and then used my knife off my belt to extinguish the fish. When I sent a photo to a friend he realised it was big and quickly checked the world record ladies current record for me. Turns out it was a few kg bigger and actually delicious eating! I was diving alone off my husbands boat - Martin and his son as well as my husband were witnesses. Martin's son is a teenager and doesn't have his own phone so I have just written as above for those fields. It is a very very rural area. I did not take girth measurements but took a couple photo's with the measuring tape - see attached. I have many many more supporting photo's than the ones attached.
