We were diving some deep reefs on Grand Bahama Island, when I saw a monster snapper swim way up in the water column. At one point it was probably only 20 ft down, acting very territorial and aggressive. I took a quick breath and swam toward the fish and started loading the spear. Being in open water, the fish saw me coming down and slowly headed for the bottom. I slowly swam down on it closing the gap. At one point about 60 ft down with it still heading toward structure, it flared to the side giving me a quartering away shot. I ended up hitting the fish in the back section with the tip coming out of at the gill plate. Knowing it was a good shot i just held the bungee and kicked back up so it couldn't make it to the reef. As soon as I got the fidh to the surface CJ started screaming saying it was the biggest dog snapper he had ever seen. I was using a Neritic Diving Blue Reaper Polespear, 2 meter Rob Allen Bungee, and an aussie reel with the Neptonics belt reel adapter. Once back on land we weighed the fish and saw it had shattered the old record by several pounds.
