My boyfriend and I just sailed to a remote island in The Bahamas on my boat and decided to go out for a dive with our friend Jeremy. Jeremy offered to be captain of my boat while Cole and I dove. Within 30 minutes, Cole and I were surrounded by a school of wahoo. Both Cole and I made drops on the fish, but every time we dove down, the fish would push deeper and disappear. One fish came back around and I decided to dive away from the fish. I dropped down to the same depth as the fish, loaded up my pole spear, and waited. The fish made a couple of passes close to me. I stayed still, keeping my head tucked, avoiding eye contact, and keeping the pole spear close to my body. Finally, the wahoo came in for one close pass and I extended my pole spear and took a shot. The shot hit the wahoo in the belly, but It penetrated and the slip tip engaged. The wahoo took off, taking my float completely under until it disappeared. Within a couple of minutes, the float popped back up about a hundred yards away. I swam over to the float and the wahoo buried the float a second time. I followed the float, got my hands on the float line, and slowly worked the fish to the surface. Once at the surface, I bear-hugged the fish and got my hands in its gills. I brained the fish with my dive knife and swam It over to my boat. The great news is, Cole got the whole thing on his GoPro!
