I dropped down to scout the area for gag grouper with my speargun. The visibility was about 15 feet. I swam right next to a massive gag hugged up on the side of a rock. I was shocked at how big it looked and had a feeling it could be a world record for pole spear. I carefully swam back to the surface and told my fellow spearfishermen not to dive. They waited for me to get my pole spear from the boat. After I retrieved my pole spear, I did a long breathe up and dove back down on the Gag. He stayed hugged up to the rock and and didn’t move. I released the pole spear right into his gill plate. He swam straight into my arms, I hugged him tightly as I swam him to the surface and then put him in the boat.
