After hurricane Ian, seaweed almost covered the surface against the massive wall on the Atlantic side of Eleuthera. As soon as Kirk and I jumped in at the dive spot it was covered with life. Kirk shot a nice sized yellowfin grouper and started to gut and bleed it on the surface on our way back to the boat. As I looked around for sharks, I saw two big black jacks swimming up to the chum. I dove down to around 40 feet and got a great holding shot on the bigger black jack. The fish swam straight down into the ledge below me and nearly snapped my spear trying to rock up. I managed to pull my line from my belt reel and get it out before it caused any damage and grabbed its tail once it was at the surface. I swam the fish back to the boat and just knew it was a world record. We then went back to shore and after recording everything we gave the fish to some of our local friends.
