The full moon in August and the week following is when the cubera are spawning and are a little less timid to hunters. Kirk Aulin and I chummed with a yellow jack we had speared off the last spot before getting in at this one. When I jumped in, there was a big cubera swimming in the chum. I grabbed kirks headhunter spearfishing nomad roller polespear and dove down to shoot the fish. I followed it down to the bottom in around 30ft while distracted by all the commotion and got a good holding shot near the pectoral fin once it turned broadside. The fish swam into shallow ledge nearby and got stuck with the spear at an angle where he eventually bled out. All the noise attracted a few sharks and we had to just wait on the surface due to the bottom being so stirred up. When I dove down to retrieve the fish once the ledge was visible, it was on its side in the rock so i put my hand in its gills and swam it to the surface.
