I’d spotted a few of these jumbo Midnight Parrotfish in an area 7 months prior to taking this record and marked the spot on gps knowing they were potential World Records. While drifting the area with Dan, I pointed them out to him and made my drop. It was good steady current, and as I kicked down past 50’ the current carried me upon him swiftly, and the fish was unsuspecting. I placed a solid shot from close range just behind his gill plate and let the fish run with the Redtide Roller pole spear and I played him from the Gannet Hybrid Skinny Floatline. He was hurt badly from the shot and came off the bottom with me. As soon as I hit the surface I swam to the waiting boat and tossed him through the rear tuna door, spear and all. I knew he would be a record fish, so I immediately got aboard, put the fish on ice and ran to the nearest Cay to record his weight and length and documented the process with video and pictures.
