As we approached the end of the day, I was really tired but Pepe (guide) insisted we should try this pinnacle as our last hope for a gulf grouper. We jumped in and on my first drop not expecting.. I saw 2 decent gulfies about 40-50lbs in 30ft from the surface. But they swam back down the pinnacle before I could even move my gun forward. I swam back up then doing another 2 dives not seeing them again. On my 4th dive, I laid on top of the pinnacle not seeing anything except this small grouper (what I thought was a Cabrilla) rushing towards me alongside pinnacle. It basically swam into the tip of my speargun landing a very easy and holding shot. I never see Pepe excited when I shoot anything so I can tell it was special by his reaction when I pulled it up. These fish typically live very deep so this is a rare sighting!
