I was on my way back from Flippe's point and going into shore after a few hours out looking for something interesting. There was a sea of Lisa fish a football field wide and just beyond, I saw this rooster fish. I usually give locals by my house fish, so dropped to shoot, and had no idea it was so big!!! My float and my gear almost took off without me, as I didn't expect this! I realized I was not able to fight as it was was swimming rapidly and literally rode it around for awhile until it was somewhat done. Once it slowed significantly, I went in through small surf holding the tail and landed it. Struggled to pull it onshore- crawling by pulling up the beach by gills on my hands and knees. I literally sat on the sand next to it....in total disbelief, and happy just to have my gear. Proceeded to get locals doing work on house in front of me to carry it to my truck, so I could look for hoist as this was not weighable by me solo! Much to my delight, a new record that I have total respect for...as it as an unbelievable sleigh ride and landing!
