I swam out to the drop-off in Buenavista where the boats are. In that area, the depth goes from 20 to 50-80 feet and into the blue. I swam the length of the drop-off until I found the bait along that site. I waited and a few small Jacks came in and I continued to wait until this large one swept in quickly. I shot it perfectly, but it was not stoned immediately, and dragged me for a bit. I swam backwards to the shallow water to drown the fish by not breathing through its gills, and pulled up and grabbed its tail, and then its gills to gain control of the fish. I immediately brained it and swam all the way back to shore.I knew it was large as it took me quite a while to swim it in, but had no idea until I weighed it that it was 10 lbs over prior record. I was ecstatic!!!
