My friends and I had last minute plans to go to La Ventana because we heard reports of Wahoo that day. Being last minute, some of the guys went out drinking and one of them couldn't make it out of bed. This was the guy who was suppose to bring me a gun... So not only am I gunless but my friend Manuel forgot his fins on thee other panga! So I took his gun and when we jumped in the water it was really green and murky. Negative thoughts were streaming in our minds because already so much has gone wrong. But with a little bit of hope, we saw tons of bait under the murk layer and within 10 minutes small schools of wahoo appeared from abyss. I swam to about 20ft and shot one of the wahoo with Manuel's gun. Afterward landing the first wahoo, Manuel finally got his fins and then he jumped in the water with his gun and I decided to go back in with my Nomad Pole Spear. After 10 minutes, I saw 2 Yellowfin Tuna and decided to make a dive and just behind them I saw a wahoo. I loaded my pole spear and as the Wahoo came close I let go and watched the entire injector rod penetrate the fish perfectly. You can hear the snorkel screams from my dive buddies all knowing well it was a great shot. But even knowing I had a good shot, I let the fish run without putting pressure on the float line. After only 3 min, it was in the boat and we were all screaming with happiness. As this is the first female pole speared wahoo. Thanks to my dive buddy for not showing up and making me use my pole spear on wahoo drifts... At 8:30am I was in the boat with 2 wahoo and more than happy.
