After many hours of driving the dinghy in terribly strong waves and current, it was finally my time to dive. I had been seeing big jacks all over the Bahamas but just couldn't get close enough. After losing several, I was furious and determined to land one. We dove the structure under the Morton salt plant in 50 feet. It was full of life and schooling jacks. I laid on the bottom and grunted and waited for the big guy to show up. Nothing. When I surfaced, Ryan said the big one stayed behind me the whole time. I tried again and this time he came right in. I went for the head shot. Bad move. I stuck him but too high and the spear fell right out. He was gravely wounded. I couldn't just leave him there so I gave it another shot. This time he came right in again. I waited for him to turn and stuck him hard in the side of the spine. I bolted for the surface and threw him in the boat. He weighed in at 12.1 pounds and I was stoked.
